Callaway Fields is a growing nursery and garden center on the south edge of Mexico, Missouri. Most of what you'll find here was grown or finished on this ground — which means the plants you buy have already lived through a central Missouri summer, a central Missouri clay winter, and whatever August decided to do that year.

That matters more than people expect. A tree trucked in from a mild climate looks perfect on the lot and struggles the first time it meets our weather. Ours are already acclimated. We can also tell you exactly how a plant behaves here, because we've watched it do it.

The yard is part nursery, part display garden. There's a native prairie planted out back, hydrangeas and butterfly bush in the beds, statuary tucked in between, and two greenhouses. You're welcome to walk all of it. Nobody will follow you around.

We're a small operation and we like it that way. If you call, you get somebody who works here. If you ask a question we don't know the answer to, we'll say so and then go find out.
